Manor Lakes – Workplace Safety Winners!

Future Kids Child Care Manor Lakes (located in Wyndham Vale) will receive workplace safety improvements, following its success in a recent WorkSafe promotion.

The promotion was aimed at encouraging child care centres and kindergartens to get involved in a new campaign to improve workplace safety and reduce the high number of debilitating – and preventable – musculoskeletal injuries. As the name suggests, musculoskeletal injuries affect the muscles and skeleton and are most often caused by strains, sprains slips, trips and falls.

"So often in this sector, safety focuses on the care of the children, as it well should," said WorkSafe Acting Executive Director, Stan Krpan. "But this campaign is about reminding employers and employees that the health and safety of staff is paramount and plays an essential role in providing quality care for children." Mr Krpan said.

Every year, more than 200 Victorian children’s services workers are hurt seriously enough to make a WorkSafe injury claim. However, it is believed there are many more not reported to WorkSafe as the injuries are considered to be "part of the job". "There are safer ways of doing things in this environment. This is what we want employers to start thinking about – and talking with their staff about - now."

Future Kids Child Care Manor Lakes will receive a free occupational health and safety check, as well as $5000 to spend on safety improvements and resources.
